MELVIN WHITE - THE RETURN Melvin returned to the band in September 2006. Melvins initial conducting experiences were with choral groups and orchestras but a period as Assistant Conductor with the Hendon Band heightened his enthusiasm for Brass Bands. He achieved National success with Tilbury, Newham and John Laing Hendon Bands, conducting in prestigious venues such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall and taking part in recordings for both television and radio. Over the last few years he has developed a professional conducting career and has worked with fine Welsh bands such as B.T.M. and Cory, being placed in the European Championships, winning the National Eisteddfod, Pontins Championships, and conducting in St Davids Hall, Cardiff and the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea Victories with St. Austell and Aldbourne have heightened Melvins reputation in the West Country. Additionally, he enjoyed a successful period with the GUS Band, in 1999 and 2000 achieving 4th place at the All England Masters and 7th place at the British Open. In 2005 with Redbridge Brass he won his 11th Area title taking him to a position of 7th on the all-time list of most successful conductors, whilst also gaining his 23rd qualification for Royal Albert Hall Finals. He is also a member of the National Panel of Adjudicators, having officiated twice at National Finals and also at numerous regional qualifying events. Melvin is one of the countrys busiest conductors, banding engagements having taken him to Europe, Scandinavia and Australia. However he is particularly delighted to again be associated with South West Trains Woodfalls Band with whom he won the West of England in 1998. |
