Below is the Woodfalls Band Hall - built in 1878. It was originally used as a Methodist School Hall with the Woodfalls Band hiring it from the Methodist Church for its evening rehearsals. The hall was put up for sale by the Methodists in the 1960's and Mr. Harold Green, son of founder John Green, purchased it at a cost of £900 so that the band could continue to rehearse there. Mr. Green became the new landlord and the band insisted that it should continue to pay 10 shillings a week to Mr. Green - against his wishes he reluctantly agreed! When Mr Harold Green eventually passed away, the hall was bequeathed to the band in his will, it also was revealed that every penny of the rent paid to Mr. Green had been invested and was subsequently returned to the band. This money, along with loans and the help of others to numerous to mention, was used in 1968 to carry out a hall refurbishment.
The current 1998/9 refurbishment was made possible by a grant of £100,000 from the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England.
Pictured in front of the band hall are the Woodfalls Juniors in the foreground with some members of the Woodfalls Concert Brass standing in front of the South West Trains Woodfalls Band.
